I have a 99 Escort with 125K and it has recently turned on the MIL with a P0401. I tested the EGR valve with a vacuum pump and the engine idle slowed. I then changed the EGR feedback sensor. The engine seemed to run better, but after 2 or 3 drive cycles the P0401 is back.
I would expect the EGR vacuum solenoid to fail every cycle and am leaning towards the EGR vavle itself being partially clogged.
Has anyone had a similar problem?

P0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected
This is not uncommon for an 11 yo car with 125K miles on it. Clogged EGR passageways is typically the culprit. The EGR valve itself is usually not to blame. The EGR and it’s riser pipe should be removed and cleaned out.
Thanks, I’ll give that a try. I just hated to spend $30 to replace the solenoid when it probably was not the cause.
