$7-$8,000 seems high to me as well, but I’d keep looking if it were me. Also, you can get a lemon in ANYTHING & I do mean anything. You can buy something new & have problems with it, so I’d check out many options before buying. There are good used cars around, but you have to check them out (and ask advice here) before buying. Otherwise, you might wind up with someone else’s problem.
That’s also what makes a Taurus of that era a good pick - reliable, but terribly unpopular.
