I am replacing the radiator on one of my taurus wagons. The next step in the Alldata procedure says to disconnect an oil cooler tube from the radiator using a 3/8 inch fuel line disconnect tube using 3/8" fuel line disconnect tool". Haynes guide, in referring to same step, says the disconnect tool can be purchased from most auto parts stores.
My first question is, which kind of disconnect tool should I use? There are ones shaped like little cylinders, and there are ones shaped kind of like scissors.
My second question is, how exactly is the tool to be used? I am guessing there is some kind of spring release the tool needs to be engaged to. Once engaged, do you push on the oil tube and then pull out? And how do you know tool is properly engaged? Is there a click or something?
I don’t have a preference for either the split cylinder or the scissors type tool.
To extract the line, place the disconnect tool around the tube; slide the tool toward and into the connection until it lifts the garter spring and abuts the expanded ridge of the tube; and while holding the tool against the ridge pull the tube and tool out of the connector.
That is abundantly clear. Thank you!
