97 Dodge Dakota heater core

I smell antifreeze in the cab but see no noticeable leak. Since the core is so hard to change out should I try one of those “fix a leak” solutions in the radiator?

How can you be so sure it is the heater core?

I would check the oil first to see if it has any coolant in mixed with it.
