My eclipse has been in the shop for 3 months now, The mechanic finally called me 2 days ago, to tell me that I need to call the Mitsubishi dealer ship and have them to come and get my car to have the bcm flashed. Am i gonna have to pay my mechanic and the dealer ship too? plz need some honest advise. thanks.
Three months without a phone call? And now the mechanic says he can’t fix it?
I don’t know why you let things go so long, but I hope you’re never going back to this place again.
The dealership isn’t going to “come and get the car.” You will have to hire a tow truck and have the car taken to a dealership, if that’s where you decide to take it. I have serious reservations, however, about the dealer’s ability to “flash” anything on a 14 year old Eclipse. If a computer is bad, my guess is you’ll need a new one.
If the “mechanic” did any work on the car I suppose you will have to pay for it, but he certainly hasn’t spent three months working on it. Did you ask him about his fee? Why not?
I suggest you do your best to pay nothing, or as close to nothing as possible. You got nothing, so why should you pay. I expect, however, that this “mechanic” will tell you he has spent countless hours trying to fix your car, to no avail. Well, maybe yes, maybe no.
If he spent countless hours he’s an incompetent boob (well, we already know he’s an incompetent boob). There are diagnostic procedures to be followed, in order, and if a mechanic follows the correct diagnostic procedures he can eliminate every possibility except the computer in a reasonable amount of time. It doesn’t take three months.
If you have to pay the mechanic, then pay a tow truck, then pay a Mitsubishi dealer for a computer of some sort, you may end up spending more money in repairs than the car is worth.
Time to sit down and do the math on this one. What’s this car worth to you?
