$700 to replace spark plug

Not all dealerships will upsell at every opportunity. It may be that the Acura dealership you use is concerned about you as a customer and want return business from you and everyone you discusss this with.

Yeah transman was the expert. Down in Georgia someplace, I think around Macon. Had a couple daughters he was very proud of. He would do things like put regular oil in them just to see what failed. The transmissions not the daughters.

 I did literally bust up at that.

I once wanted to actually find transman the person. Donā€™t do an internet search on ā€œTransman.ā€ You wonā€™t find any transmission techs that way.

I understand. I think he mentioned a hint once but never said the name of his shop. I think he was very wary of being tracked. But somewhere south of Atlanta and east of Macon.

My dealership is different. Nothing suggested until competent mechanic analysis.

Back in the days when my local Subaru dealership was really small, there were no Service Writers, and the Service Manager was the person with whom you dealt directly. He was a really nice, down-to-earth guy, and it was nice to be able to chat with him when there wasnā€™t any pressing business for him to attend to.

When it was time for the 60k service on my 6-cylinder Outback, I expressed a bit of surprise when I saw the bill. Please note that I didnā€™t complain, but simply said something along the lines ofā€¦ Oh, thatā€™s more than I had expected.

He responded by saying ā€œCan you wait a couple of minutes?ā€, and he came back with an invoice for the same service on a 4-cylinder Outback. I saidā€¦ Are you sure about that?ā€¦ and he just winked as he took my credit card.

A few months later, he was gone (for reasons unknown), but it might have had something to do with discounting the bill for certain customers.

Our shop charges rates similar to the dealer but they do stand behind their work. A couple of times in the last ten or so years they blew a diagnosis and the problem wasnā€™t fixed. They fixed the problem the second time correctly and at no extra labor charge. They also threw in a free oil change.

Iā€™m just kind of wondering where some of this is heading. Last time I wanted some coolant work done I had to make an appointment for two
Weeks in advance. Said he couldnā€™t find workers. So I made an appointment for a brake fluid flush and asked if I could just wait for it. No he has to have the car all day to fit it in with the only guy he has. Same guy that used to put a fuel pump in same day. Now Acura hasnā€™t been a problem but maybe they are just over staffed and havenā€™t adjusted yet. I hope things settle out.

When I say exact same thing, I get screamed at and the sinful message is removed.
People start talking about handicapped/90 yo owners who canā€™t do anything themselves. LOL
