2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class - Could it be the CEL and not the actual problem?

My Check Engine lamp turned on with no symptoms at all. I parked for an hour and then upon starting again the light was off!
One agent told me the computer tells that the Catalytic box needs to change and that the light will turn on again. Could it be the case that the check engine light turns off while the defect is still unrepaired?

Number one task, get the codes read and post back with the code numbers, not with what somebody tells you.
How many miles on this car? If by catalytic “box” you mean the catalytic converter, it might still be covered by emission control warranty.
You can try a catalytic cleaner added to the gas, unlikely to hurt anything. But without the actual code number(s) we can’t even guess at the cause. Could even be a loose gas cap that triggered the light.

A catalytic converter is tested for efficiency, it isn’t like a burned-out light bulb that never will work again.

A catalytic converter can be 80% efficient on one trip (acceptable) and 65% efficient on the next trip, considered to be a “failure”.

In the United States, original equipment catalytic converters come with 8-year/80,000-mile warranty.

That’s good advice in my diy’er opinion. No MB experience, but the CEL in many cars can sometimes turn on then turn off later. If possible post the active, pending, and history codes.
