Mud in the air intake???
How is this even possible unless I’m driving through flood water?

Maybe it’s a flood car. Have you owned it since new? If so, it could have been on a dealers lot where flooding occurred. If not, the previous owner may have done it. You can do a web search for flood damaged vehicles by VIN.
Agree with @jtsanders maybe a flood car. The intake is fairly high in a fairly low car. It shouldn’t suck mud.
Maybe mud daubers trying to build nests?
Tester
I think Tester has it I also have to clean Mud dauber nest’s from various places on my vechiles every so often.
