2017 Subaru Outback - Low oil light

low oil light comes on in dash periodically, sometimes a day or so after oil change and refill new filter plus 5 quarts oil. Checking oil level when parked after light came on says oil is full. Subaru dealer wants to diagnose while light on but whenever I’m in their area, light goes off. We think the sensor is bad. Not sure at this point since havent diagnosed it.

Is this a low oil pressure light or a low oil level light??

If the oil level is good when the light comes on and no ticking or knocking noises heard then either leave it at the dealer/repair shop in hopes it will come on, or just replace the sensor and cross your fingers in hopes that is the issue…

I would check for any history or pending codes that might be related 1st…

If the oil level light comes on, the yellow oil can icon with waves under it, then you are either low on oil or the sensor is bad. Not much else to it.

The sensors do go bad, I’ve had to replace the one on my Silverado (300k miles) twice now.

BTW, it is normal for them to become intermittent as they begin to fail.

Hi thanks, I had a tech at our nearby dealer look at the problem and it is a bad sensor. Made appt to have it replaced.
