2015 Nissan Rogue - Shifting In Neutral at Lights

When I’m sitting at a Long red light, like long enough to write a short novel, I prefer to put my car in Neutral versus keeping my foot on the brake the whole time. My wife says I’m going to ruin the transmission by doing this. What’s the facts on this?

Considering Nissans, and especially the Rogue, have pretty poor transmissions, I would leave it in gear at the light and change the fluid in this thing every 30,000 miles.

You wife is right for that reason alone. But she is also right in that it is unsafe to leave your car in neutral and your foot off the brake at a light for a lot of reasons I won’t go into here all having to do with other people’s accidents.

It is not safe so stop it .
