I’d taken my truck to one of those quick change oil places, turns out they overfilled the oil, I realize this after I was smelling burnt oil, I pulled the dip stick to see if the oil was burnt, it wasn’t but there was too much. Anyhow I took it back and they drained it, filled it to proper level. I still get that burnt smell on occasion, the oil is fine. The truck has 90K miles, there is no real pattern when I smell it mostly when I make a quick stop. Could it be there is some extra oil in the engine that finds its way into a cylinder?
I would think it more likely that got some oil on part of the exhaust system.
Any oil in a cylinder would be expelled out the exhaust and you would not smell it.
