For pete’s sake, why do that? Just to let us know you don’t check your oil as often as you should.
@VOLVO_V70 I see you didn’t read the totality of my post.
The Tl:DR here is that it is a defect… Subaru will replace it if its under warrenty
I’m just going to throw this out there. When I bought my Mustang last year, during it’s first 5000 miles it used about 1.5 quarts of oil. Now that it’s broken in, it’s used about a half quart of oil in the next 5000 miles. I can live with that. My previous Mustang, a 2003, used a bit less than that, it typically would only be down maybe a quarter of a quart over the course of a 5000 mile oil change interval. . My F-150 doesn’t use any, but I only put around 2k miles on it a year. My TR6 doesn’t “use” oil per se , it just kinda falls out of the engine on it’s own accord.
I’ve heard that newer cars do tend to use more oil than cars from 10-15 years ago, but not nearly as much as cars from the 50’s-70’s.
The 2012 and 2013 Impreza’s were notorious for oil consumption. This turns out to be a factory defect. My 2012 impreza was approaching 100k miles. I drive a ton. Before the Shortblock replacement it was using 2 Quarts every 2,500 miles. That by any standard is bordering on guzzling.
I also had short block replaced after about 3 years. For first additional year almost no oil use. For last year a little oil use. I will monitor it as there was class action settlement which extends oil use warranty from 5 yrs to 8 yrs. If problem they do an oil usage test, action is required if usage is more than 1/3 quart every 1200 miles.
That usage test is exactly what triggered the block replacement. I was in the neighborhood of a 3/4 of a quart down after 1200 miles.
