I could read up on Mercedes camshaft issues. Is it the cam, followers, phasers, timing chains? Tensioners or something else? I know it’s probably expensive.
For that money I’d want a second opinion. Was this from a MB dealer? Find a good independent shop that specializes in MB, pay them to diagnose the problem and give you an estimate.

Yeah, get at least one more opinion. The sales price on a car like yours is a lot higher than $6000, and repairing it is probably worth it in the long run. If you have a written estimate, tell us exactly what it says.
