We just bought our 2012 Chevy Cruze in April (it was a rental return) and in the last couple of weeks the (computerized) radio has started to go berzerk. It doesn’t do it all the time – which is why the dealership hasn’t caught it yet – but when it does, it keeps rebooting itself in the manner of this other 2012 Cruze that someone else captured on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQbcQHePUVw
Any ideas? Will the car suddenly die on us without warning? We’re going to make the dealership take it back if they can’t find the cause and fix it.
I don’t think that your car will suddenly die. It sounds more like a problem in the radio itself or the power to the radio. If everything else is working properly, the dealer needs to make sure that the power isn’t going on and off to the radio and if the power to the radio is o.k., about the only thing left is to replace the radio.
The dealer will probably replace the radio, and that should solve the problem. If they can’t duplicate the problem, show them your video.
There is no way of telling what will happen to your vehicle’s electrical system without perhaps a deck of tarot cards. But this sounds like an isolated problem, as others have said, and the dealer should fix this under warranty. It might be worth going to a site like edmunds.com and looking at other owner’s reviews of this car to see if anyone else has experienced this.
