2012 Chevrolet Equinox - P2096

Hi all, I’m looking for help diagnosing the issue with my wife’s vehicle. It recently threw code P2096.

Some history of the car:

In the last 6 months I have replaced both O2 Sensors. In the last 12-18 months I have replaced the exhaust manifold.

Here is what I’m seeing with the OBDII scanner:

At idle, the upstream O2 sensor oscillates between about 0 - 0.7 V. The downstream O2 sensor oscillates between 0.3 - 0.8 V. Short term fuel trim oscillates between -10 - 10. MAF is reading about 3 g/s. Vacuum is reading about 20 in/Hg.

Accelerating to about 2500 RPM, the upstream O2 will be between 0.1 and 0.7 V, while the downstream is between 0.4 and 0.9 V. MAF is about 16 g/s. STFT is between -10 and 1.

After driving for a couple miles and then stopping, the upstream O2 stays about the same as it was while idling. But now the downstream O2 sensor is reading a constant 0.75 V, and the STFT is oscillating between -10 and -1.

From what I’ve read I suspect that it is the catalytic converter, given the oscillation of the downstream O2 sensor voltage. But I wanted to see if you guys had any other ideas about what might be going on.

Thanks for your help!

This is a good read on P2096. Check and repair issues related to the code first. Then if necessary, deal with the catalytic converter.
