The car jerks and it takes a while for the gear to change when I stop at a red light. . the transmission sounded like it was recing before it switched to another gear. The ready light did not did not turn off or blinked. I was told that it was the transmission and that it was $ 5000 to fix the problem.

If it is the transmission, I’d see what it would cost for an independent shop to install a used transmission.
