2010 Mercury Mariner replacement

Thank you for the responses over the years regarding this 2010 Mercury Mariner. It was my wife’s car and it finally gave up. She loved this car. We are going to look for a slightly used car that is similar to the Mariner. Suggestions about what cars are available that are similar to the Mariner are welcome. We are considering looking at cars that are only a couple of years old.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Assuming that you are looking for another compact SUV, the top-rated ones are the Subaru Forester, Toyota Rav4, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5. There is also the Ford Escape, but it isn’t anywhere nearly as reliable as the ones that I listed above.

Since used vehicles are pulling crazy prices now why not look at new. You can use almost every manufactures web site to build and price a new vehicle. You will have dimensions and specs right there on your screen . Plus warranty for at least 3 years.

Another option is Carmax if you have one near you, they do have premium prices but they have a good return policy plus some kind of warranty.

I feel.prices for 2 - 3 year old vehicles are just too close to new

Might be better off buying brand new, as @VOLVO-V70 said

If you are finanbcing the vehicle, new car loans are at lower rates than used car loans.

I think the Mazda would be the closest to the Mariner

You’re a doctor. Buy your wife a new car. Stop buying someone else’s problem.

Since the Mercury Mariner was considered to be a slightly more upscale version of the Ford Escape, then the closest thing to it would be a Ford Escape…

But I would go with ones that VDCdriver mentioned, much better quality…

As mentioned, do your home work and price out new vs a couple years old…

I agree with Volvo-V70, CarMax has a great selection and a great warranty plan you can add as well as a great return policy/trade for something else if needed…

You are not going to find anything similar to a 2010. Everything within the past few years comes with a lot of annoying features, such as touchscreen controls for everything, autonomous driving features (lane assist, automatic braking, traction control, etc), automatic stop/start, etc.

I am astonished to hear that you think a 2010 vehicle is used up and unable to be repaired again. Unless there is rust/body damage, the smart decision would be to fix the Mercury Mariner, and forget about buying a different vehicle. Especially another used vehicle. A 2010 is not old at all. Most people expect a vehicle to last for at least 20 years or 200,000 miles. I try to get at least 25 years out of a vehicle.

Old Mopar and I seem to have the same question . Dr. Chrisq has a lot of topics about vehicle problems about old cars. If he really is a Doctor why is he messing with vehicle problems ?

A 2010 vehicle is 15 years old

That’s an old car, by MOST people definition

Buy a 2015 and stop worrying for 5 yrs. Come back in 2030 and pick up your quest.
