Only at low speed and turning to the left (driver’s side), Anti-lock brake engages. No visible notifications or alarms, just the noise of engagement .
I’m going to make a guess that a new front bearing/hub assembly is in your future. Your wheel speed sensors are in there, and when the bearing starts to fails it messes with the speed sensor. It will get worse… Any noise?
FWIW, on a higher mileage vehicle, I always do mine in pairs.
4wd Ranger or 2wd? But I agree with the wheel bearing idea.
Looks like the RWD still has the old rotorhub with adjustable tapered bearings, whereas the 4WD has the hub bearing assembly…
Anyway, same as above, 1st guess is a bearing issue…
You can have the codes scanned, might have a pending or history ABS code… Most any auto parts store can help with it…
When you turn left the right side loads up. And driver side unloads. Are you saying turning left is affecting driver side more/less and you are blaming driver side wheel for issue?
All, thank you for all your thoughts and suggestions. For further clarification, this Ranger is a 4 wheel drive model (85,000 miles and w/manual transmission) and I can hear no noise except for the engagement. The speed when engagement occurs is at a very slow speed, almost a crawl. On the road, there is no pull or noise - steering points straight without any assistance. Next step is to follow-up with a scan. Thanks again.
Check the ride height of the front. Is the distance from each front frame rail to flat ground within 1/4 inch? If not, adjust the torsion bar on the low side to raise it to within 1/4 inch.
It may sound strange but, this is free to check and adjust so why not give it a try?
