What are the overheating symptoms
Common engine overheating symptoms:
- Dashboard engine coolant temperature gauge goes higher than its normal range. Some cars don’t use a coolant temp gauge, just a warning light, same applies, if coolant temp warning light is own, engine is overheating.
- Steam emerges from engine compartment.
- Engine performance problems, missing, pinging.
Anytime the engine is overheating, the engine compartment fan(s) should be spinning like a banshee, so that’s something the owner can tell their mechanic that would be helpful in the diagnosis. If engine overheats unexpectedly, turning on the passenger compartment heater and heater fan to max will usually supply a little engine cooling.
