I’ve enjoyed listening and reading you for years now-with that finished-
When stopped at a light for some time, I put the transmission into neutral thinking it might take some of the strain off the engine. My wife questions why.
Does this help the engine or just not necessary? Thanks

Actually it is an unsafe practice because if you need to move in a hurry for some reason putting it back in gear will just slow you down.
Also it is not known if Ray reads this section of the Car Talk forum .
It helps nothing. Just leave it in drive.
