Subaru 2006 outback - cruise control doesn’t work (flashing light) & engine control light stays on

If the check engine light is on the cruise won’t work. Take it to a shop to find out what is wrong and get the problem repaired, then the cruise will most likely work again.

In addition to the cruise control, the vehicle stability control will not work when the CEL is lit up.
Once the underlying problem that caused the CEL to light up is repaired, the cruise control and vehicle stability control should function normally again.

Wild guessing, I might say a speed sensor has gone south. That may, or may not, show up as a Diagnostic Trouble Code.

You might make sure the brake lights are not staying on by themselves.
