when on highway truck will start a loud hum when i touch the brake pedal it will stop for a short time,it happens intermittently.truck has 83000 miles the brakes are ok.

Have you had the brake pads checked by a mechanic?
Another possibility is wheel bearings. Does the sound increase with increasing speed? How does the sound change when you turn?
How old are your tires in years?
