2006 Chevy Malibu clunk/knock noise

Clunk/knock noise heard and felt in the steering while driving at slow speeds and turning. Noise appears to be directly in front of driver. Appears to by a steering issue? Hitting a bump while turning can produce the clunk noise. Is there an issued with the steering gear box or related parts?

The noise might be coming from a broken stabilizer bar end link. Have the front suspension inspected to determine if this is what’s causing the noise.

I wonder if the steering is mechanical (not drive by wire) it could also be the column assembly, too

My parents have a 2005 Malibu Maxx and they had the same problem. My dad figured out that there is a joint in the seering column that needed to be greesed. He said that it was not a difficult project and he did it in less than 2 hours including taking covers off and putting them back on. I have a 2007 and have not had the problem yet but it looks like I should be expecting it.
