2005 Outback with only 36K miles - Replace timing belt?

Thanks to everyone again.

To close the loop, I had the timing belt and tensioners replaced yesterday. Just under $700. Shop thought the water pump looked too good (this is my language not theirs) to replace so that saved some $$ (cost for the pump was just under $400).

400 more for water pump? The cost of a full timing belt kit isn’t much more w/water pump included.

As far as labor, they’re already there. Just coolant, burping etc.

IMO, the $700 should have included pump or $100 more MAX.

Good for you OP, got a new timing belt, and good to go. Good idea to replace the coolant every 2-3 years to insure the water pump. Happy motoring.
