I have a 2005 Ford Freestyle that I had a mechanic look at the AC because it wasn’t shooting out cold air and only warm air was coming out when I stopped moving. He said that it needs two new expansion valves at a cost of $1200. Will this fix it and if its not fixed will it hurt the compressor. Maybe I should trade it in it has 200K miles on it. Help… Please!!! Thank-you!!!
I am somewhat skeptical that the problem is 2 failing expansion valves. You can open your hood and watch the fan/s at the radiator while someone cycles the AC on and off. When the AC is on and the compressor engages the fans should be on. If they are not that might be the problem.
Thanks. Will check it out.
Had this problem previously - it’s very common with this vehicle - solved with a simple solution! You need to obtain a scroll valve and have your local A/C mechanic replace it. I found this on myfordfreestyle.com. Here’s the link to their discussion. http://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5639
My Ford dealer wanted me to replace the compressor.
