2004 Prius -- when should a TSB become a recall?

Even when a relatively common failure can result in, in effect, brake system failure in a relatively new car?

I don’t know…

To be honest, we inherited this car. Now that we’ve had it for a year, I’m pretty well convinced I wouldn’t buy a new one. And I know that’s a touchy subject.

Why would I not buy a new one? Because you can get very, very close to the same mileage, room and reliability in, say, a Honda Fit… For about $10,000 less. You will never, ever, make up the price difference in gasoline between a Fit and a Prius. It will not happen.

There really is no point in spending an additional $10,000 if you’re only ever going to save $3,000 in gasoline; over 200,000 miles, I don’t believe for a second the Fit will use that much more than a Prius.

I like the Prius, and I’m glad we have one. But a Fit, Civic, Corolla, etc., is more cost-effective.
