The temperature sensor on the engine can be tested. If the coolant level is low, that sensor may not have anything flowing past it.

The “Engine Temp Sensor” is only for the computer to help control fuel.
You need to replace the “Engine Temp Sender” for the gauge, that’s it’s only job, for the temp gauge!
Notice the 2 different tips on these, one is for the gauge, one is for the computer
Good point, Tester. Many cars have one coolant temp sensor that sends a signal to the engine control computer, and another that signals the gauge or light on the instrument panel.
