I have a 2004 BMW 330CI driven 1K per year and garaged for 5 months/yr. Every year I replace the oil (sythetic) before storing.
Prudent or waste of money?
Prudent. All owners manuals note a Mileage OR time notation for oil changes. Putting on such low miles a year I’m guessing you do mostly short commutes around town and the engine doesn’t always get to full temperature, so you should use your owners manual’s SEVERE SERVICE recommendations, which I would guess calls for an oil change at a minimum of once a year.
