You might look for a mouse nest under the hood.
That should still function ok. As long as some of the conductors are not damaged, there should be not problem.
Although this would be a weak point mechanically and further flexing could cause the remaining conductors to break.
I would patch it with some caulk or electrical tape (or both) and keep my fingers crossed.
