2002 Ford Mustang - grinding noises when turning steering wheel (hard)

My fiance’s 2002 Ford Mustang (base model) has over 200,000 miles on it. It’s in pretty good shape except that we’ve begun to notice a grinding sound when we turn the wheel to a hard left or right at slow speeds (like getting in or out of a parking space). What might this be?

Noise probably coming from the power steering pump. Check the fluid level.

If it is when the wheels are turned to their limit, it might be just rubbing of the parts that limit the steering angle. Identify these parts and put some grease on them. If the noise stops, you have identified the source. If it does not stop, you have a serious problem.
