2001 Ford Ranger Oil Leak Help

(3.0L, 2wd 2001 Ranger). The oil leak appears to be coming from the front of the engine - either at oil pan or just above oil pan. A white transluscent plastic-like strip is hanging loose at the leak. While running the leak is a constant drip-drip-drip. Any ideas? What can I expect to hear from a mechanic?

You can expect the mechanic to say you need a new “front main seal”. That’s a rubber seal around the front end of the crankshaft where it exits the crankcase. The seal keeps the oil from leaking out the crankcase.
