2000 Honda Accord 2.3 coupe timing belt

Can you do a limited inspection of the timing belt to verify that it has been changed after 144000 miles?

You can remove the upper cover and look, but you won’t be able to tell how old the belt is. They look good right up until they break.

If you don’t know for sure that the belt has been replaced you must assume it has not been.

I encountered a similar situation with my accord when I bought it with 118k. The dealership could not prove to me that it was ever done, so I refused to pay the agreed - upon price unless they threw in a timing belt. Like Mc said, you have to assume it hasn’t been unless proven otherwise.
