I recently become the owner of a 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara 4WD(2.5L V6). As luck would have it, the owner’s manual was missing from the vehicle. I can’t seem to find an answer on the internet regarding the timing apparatus. Is it a belt or a chain? Based on what I have read, if it is a chain, replacement is only recommended if their is a problem. If it is a belt is is prone to stretching over time and should be replaced every 60,000. What is the answer?
Gates doesn’t list a timing belt so I’m going to have to say “chain.”
One less thing to worry about. Lucky you.
Your car has a timing chain. Three, actually.
There is no recommended service for it until it fails. Hopefully the life of the car.
Thank you both for the answers. That’s what I was hoping to hear!
