1999 Mercedes-Benz S-Class - Steering isn't right

Just bought a used 1999 Mercedes S320. The steering wheel does not return to center after a turn. I have installed new front shocks and had a front end alignment, but the problem persists. The tires look OK. What else can I check? Would a tire rotation help?

First, welcome to the forum. With a 20 year old Mercedes, I think you’ll be visiting us often. Do you know how to make a small fortune? Start with a large fortune and buy a used Mercedes. Back to the subject. First, check that the air pressure in all four tires is at the recommended setting, which can be found on the driver’s door jamb. Second, get a wheel alignment. It could be as simple as adding a bit more caster, or as complex as a bent front end component as a result of a previous accident.

Could also be a bad steering rack. How many mikes on this old Mercedes?
