I have 98 honda crv turned in my drive and wheel and hub broke away and it was bottomed out on my lower ball joint suspension what could cause this other then bad ball joints I guess and my axle came out also

A picture is worth a thousand words… It sounds like your ball joint broke (separated) but since we can’t see the damage it is kind of hard to say otherwise…

Good info above. One other question: Has there been any recent work done involving the suspension system on that wheel?

Completely normal. Have it fixed.
