I drive a 1997 Nissan 200sx SE-R, manual transmission.
I was driving to work this morning on the interstate this morning, and after 30 minutes me battery light and brake light were flickering at speeds 65-75 mph, When I got off the highway and reduced my speed to 55-60 mph this stopped, does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it. Thank you.
Your alternator is going bad. Since its only happening at higher speeds right now, that indicates that the brush in it is about worn down to nothing. It won’t be long before the lights stay on all the time, then your battery will go dead.
Alternators are pretty easy to replace, but are expensive. The brush is also pretty easy to replace, if you know the trick. Every alternator has a trick to getting the brush in easy, but you often need a service manual to find it. The brush is cheap too.
