1995 4runner rack and pinion

kid has clunk in steering. found a link online that says it might be worn rack guide.
it is a “crossbolt” type device that applies side pressure to the internal rack ram
has a big hex screw head that you undo to remove the guide.
the guide wears and clearance opens up and lets rack click.
is this a typical rack adjustment found on lots of racks or only a few like the 4runner?
