My Galant has an idle surge from 1000 rpm to 2000rpm back to 1000rpm and so on. I know it is a sensor, but i am not sure. Please help?

Vacuum leak, improper timing belt installation if this has been done lately, improper ignition timing (due to a faulty “tune-up” or faulty T-belt installation, faulty Idle Air Valve, etc. are possibilities.
