I have a 93 Ford Escort mini-station wagon w/ 350K+ miles that’s been a GREAT car (5 spd manual). But it suddenly started leaking red transmission fluid onto the floor by the gas pedal. Going to the Ford website gave us a “replace the speedo cable”, as apparently it acts as an augur & can “wick” fluid up it (1st time in 25 yrs and 350K miles?) But we did so - and now it’s worse that it was before. Ideas? many thanks-
Howard
I believe that there is an O-ring in the speedometer gear housing on the transaxle to keep the fluid from entering the cable.
