1992 Chevy Cavalier readr drums are locking up

As the car is being driven the rear drums have been locking up. Then after a few mins of driving it they release. Why and how do I fix it?

Possible rusted brake components not allowing the cylinder to release the brake shoes until the nightime acummulation rust has burned off.

Remove the wheels and clean/inspect.

another possiblity is that the drums and shoes are so worn out that the wheel cylinder piston is extending so far it is jambing. At any rate you do need to pull the rear drums and do a through inspection to determine the cause of this VERY DANGEROUS condition. If your car wont start its a problem, if it wont stop you may never have another problem again.

The simplest way to fix this is to take the car to a mechanic and have the brakes repaired. We can’t see the brakes from here, so we can only guess at what might be wrong. It could be one or more of many things.

I think this condition is unsafe, and I advise not driving the car. Have it towed to a mechanic instead of driving it.
