1988 Lincoln Continental will not move in drive

I have a 1988 Lincoln Continental with 67,000 original miles. It is a very clean car. It was running great. I stopped at a stop light and it would not move in forward. I could shift it into reverse, but none of my forward gears would engage. Does anyone know what happened or what the problem might be?

Someone with specific information about the trans on this car will have to give you specifics. Without investigation, it could be minor external mechanical problem (linkage) or a transmission rebuild. In a 20 YO trans there are lots of seals that could be decayed preventing proper shifting. If one of those is gone, it is time to go in and replace everything soft in the transmission. Please take it to a reputable transmission shop or get a Ford reman. The latter have an excellent warranty.
