11998 Dodge 3500 diesel wity manual tranny approx.95000 miles

When I start the truck in cold weather there is a moaning noise when it is running. The noise increases in intensity with RPM and speed. I suspect power steering pump or the throw-out bearing. Any advice that will shorten the diagnosis will be appreciated. At 75 years of age I need all the help that I can get.

Thanks,

Ernie

I can comment on the throw-out bearing as a potential source, does the noise only appear when you press on the clutch?

No, it is there all the time but only if the weather is really cold. I started the truck today. The temperature was approximately 30 degrees and no noise.

Thanks,

  Ernie

Take the serpentine belt off before you start it on the next cold morning and see if the problem goes away.

Sounds like a nice truck you have there…Cummins + NV4500 transmission is a sweat setup.
