starts ok, But no power, I have to floor the gas to maintain speed of 70 mph also I have to let off the pedal to get the transmission to shift up to next gear. whats going on?
Look up there…those strange lights!
Are there any unusual lights illuminated, particularly red? What do they say? If so, are they steady or blinking?
No check engine lights all gauges show normal.
Is the transmission fluid level correct?
had the same problem with 1998-ford taurus, change fuel filter, now drive like a caddy.
I agree about the fuel filter. Had problem several times in the past, the last time it blew out the fuel pump (Ford Explorer). There is enough gas in the system to start or run low speeds, but at high speed the pump just can’t push enough gas through the filter.
You need a special set of rings, about $ 10, to release the fittings on the filter. The filter is about $ 10. A lot better than the $ 50 the lube places want to charge for a 2 minute procedure. Probably should be done every 30 K, and once you know how to do it, it will be done on schedule for minimal expense. I do it on our 02 Taurus (had a previous 95 Taurus).
I don’t think there is anything wrong with the transmission as it would normally not up shift if you have it floored.
I am also suspicious of the fuel supply. Could be fuel filter or fuel pump. If the filter has not been replaced recently, now would be a good time. Next I would have the fuel pressure and volume checked.

Is the engine shaking, even at idle? If so, look at the coils and plugs.
