My lovely wife called me to say car is dead and will not even click. I talk her through the jump start to get her home. Today, I go to Interstate and have a new battery installed $89. On the way there I hear small amount of static on radio. Same thing on way home from work. Car now is dead.
I need thoughts on where to find short otherwise it is off to independant. Should I ask for a parasitic drain test? Your thoughts appreciatted Thanks!
That’s a major drain you’ve got there.
I would definitely have a load test done and pay particular attention to the alternator.
You may also have a bad ground connection somewhere.
Was that the original battery?
Try removing both ends of the battery cables (both of them) and cleaning both the cable and where it goes very well and reattaching making sure they are secure.
Next have the charging system and battery checked. Most auto parts stores will do this for free.Report: Independant finds that altinator needs replacement. Recommended Bosch rebuilt.
Is $457 installed a good price?
I like Bosch rebuilt units. I think they have a very good warranty. The installed price sounds pretty high to me but I’m not sure what it takes to install a alternator in your car. You might have the price for the unit and labor broken out. You could call other shops to get a price comparison also.
