Here is a baffler! I had 4 new tires installed on my 1974 Super Beetle yesterday, so I consider it a keeper. From there I drove to my mechanic’s shop to drop off a payment for service in August. He employs 8 mechanics and deals only with old VWs. Minutes later, my engine wouldn’t start. This was exactly the issue that had brought me there in August! Both times I’d driven on the highway >10 miles beforehand and was parked on flat land. In August, they kept my car 4 days but my receipt just says, “Bypass starter interlock system." Yesterday, he jacked it up in the shop driveway, crawled under with a screwdriver, and asked me to try starting it. Success! He said he "just touched it” (the starter, which is new) and didn’t adjust anything. I left, b/c they were baffled and had tried their best, but I worry that the problem will arise again out of the clear blue. Also, since it’s starting now, if I consult another shop they cannot test additional solutions. How can I ensure rel
