Very close to my home, the appropriately-named Canal Road skirts along the edge of Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park, with the other side of this narrow road sprinkled with utility poles. If there is no traffic, during the day, a skilled driver might be able to navigate its curves at–maybe–35 mph. However, all-too-many younger, inexperienced drivers seem to think that it is a race course at night, and the result is frequently like what took place 2 nights ago. The article was apparently written before the 17 year old girl succumbed to her head injuries:
In college the guy across the hall was from New York. Drove a vw and bragged about the mileage he got by driving right behind semis letting the draft pull him along from ny to South Dakota. Said he could just let go of the steering wheel. We thought he was nuts. Maybe saved $3 at $32.9. Decided not to go back though and became a local news caster. Might have been afraid to make the trip again.
Sorry to hear your comment was flagged.
I try to walk on the edge with people as you might never know someone might take offense to something you’ve said. Keeping things clean and respectful at all times, especially on online forums, has helped me avoid unnecessary drama. Some times doing that might make you look weak but what’s there to win over the keyboard when you really look into it.
+1
Especially when “keyboard warriors” are frequently something along the lines of this guy, who would crumble if he was confronted in real life…
IMO, life is far too short to engage in extended internet combat over issues that… in the long run… are really not very important.
All very true, but the sad part was the Mail I got said you had a post flagged and removed, it never said what post, I had to look hard to find the deleted post, I mean I have made more than one post that I thought might get flagged…
I had one deleted a while back (what BFE stood for) and the system told/showed me the post that was flagged… I figured, don’t ask me a question if you are not ready for the answer… Oops…
Moving on now…
Don’t lose any sleep over that event.
I know some people whose posts were flagged–and eliminated–for supposed violations that did not actually exist.
It all depends on a site’s moderator(s), and now that Carolyn has apparently departed, I’m not very sure about the veracity of the current moderators, who seem to take several days to respond.
So Carolyn is gone? Just get a car and license and they leave the big city?
Who is Carolyn?
The longer-term members of this forum remember Carolyn as the dedicated moderator, who has apparently moved-on to other pursuits.
My HS buddy, in the late 60s, had a 350 Honda Scrambler. He was riding the bike on a narrow two lane road, went around a blind curve riding center line, ran head on to a car coming the opposite direction that was hugging the center line. He lived, spent several weeks in the hospital. He received a pin in his hip, made him ineligible for military service.
Oh, thanks for clearing that up.
I had assumed “Carolyn” was a forum substitute for that other female name commonly given to someone who projected both entitlement and narcissism.
I couldn’t steer either.
My joke about thin ice got flagged, too. The fun police staged a raid.
Anyway, @bing: How was the ice-fishing this year?
I haven’t fished for probably 30 years. It was just something I did with my dad.
I signed on just now to find several of my comments being reported and removed.
Yeah I just got flagged today for something but have no idea what it was. The process seems to have changed with the demise of Carolyn. Used to be they showed you what it was and the reason. No more.
I’ve advocated for a long time that the flags should be public so you know who was offended. Some people are hyper sensitive about subjects they don’t want discussed.
If I ever flag anyone, I will post what my concern is.
I was given a reason for all the violations. They said I was flagged for not staying on topic.
As for showing who reported a content, that would likely lead to more hostile on the forum. So anonymous reporting makes sense.
You can have an idea of who report you some times. The people who try to be helpful and friendly, and respectful on online forums. are less likely to use the report button, unless a blatant offense was made that merits reporting. The ones who love to argue, on the other hand, and criticize without mercy, are the flaggers.
I might get reported for this, too, and I’ll apologize to the moderators in advance. Just feel like telling some truths.
If you got flagged for going off topic, then ALOT of members should have been flagged, cause a whole lot goes way off topic on here…
I see a trend here in a time line of something else happening on here that may be the reason why flags are being thrown when not nearly as much for a while before…
I am sure the long time guys no what I am talking about… But that is as far as I will go with it in here…
Took me a bit to figure out you have too pull it up from your email (DM) in order to see why you were flagged, just clicking on the flag from under your Avatar will not show it to you…
Easiest way to get flagged is to head off into politics or social commentary. This isn’t the place for it.
Well sure but how do you discuss banning ice, car jacking, diesel trucks, and a whole host of other subjects that some don’t like to have a different perspective given without calling it politics?
