Not to continue this but where do you get a $7 tie rod end? I’d be very leery of the supply source. I had a quality, one year old moog tie rod break. Yeah a casting break. No way I would install a $7 one. 70 mph on the interstate with a Chinese knock off?
I found that price just the other day on rockauto. I think it was made by Moog.
$7.94 Wholesaler closeout… not a very good example, the economy MEVOTECH is $9.09 for the same part…
Side note, the tire rod ends are for RWD, not sure if the same as a 4x4 or not… fits 1971-1979
Yep wholesale close out. The warehouse is clearing their shelves at discount prices. Get em while they’re hot. I get e mails from rock from time to time on close outs like this but usually for parts you never need. Like finding a tie rod at a garage sale. I don’t know the truck but the picture looks like an outer but description is for an inner. Maybe George will grab them up.
It seems you’re putting a VERY low value on your time, George
Time for me to put this thread on muted.
Don’t you like watching George tilt at windmills?
Yes! One of my favorite stories! I’ve read several English translations, but always wished I could read Cervantes’s novel in its original Spanish.
What discount would be needed for this to make sense for you ?
If you gave me that car, I would sell it and buy a normal one. So there is no cost for that car that would make sense. Pay me a million to live with it for 2 years, then we’re talking.
My mother majored in both Spanish Language and Elementary Education when she was a college student, and she had to read Don Quixote in the original Spanish.
Give up people . George is never going to admit that this maintenance idea is stupid - foolish and never going to happen .
I tried to learn Spanish by chit-chatting with the Spanish-speaking staff at the local produce store, but, alas, I’m still pretty much Spanish-illiterate. Some here say that’s true no matter the language … lol … .
lol,I took German. My boss/mayor at th3 time said what do you want to do that for? Half th3 world speaks Spanish. You could work the parts counter now to keep it automotive. I was at the junk yard once and the customer brought his 13 year old along to translate from Spanish to English. I was impressed with her.
Useful to remember the rate of inflation:
$4800 in 1962 equals $50,000 today.
When I did the calculation on my (only) brand new vehicle, a 2007 Toyota for $22,500 then, equals almost $35,000 today…the price of a new EV does not seem so high.
Still, EV prices are coming down, and vehicles are getting better.
I will keep driving my 17-year old vehicle a while longer…
I dunno, I think the inflation
estimates are a little off. If I remember right a ford ltd in 65 was about $2500. A 1000 ft rambler house about $16,000 in 65. Private college was $1000 per semester including room and board in 66. In 74 I paid $4400 for my cutlass.
I read recently that the average price of a new car is a little under $47,000. A Tesla Model 3 or 2WD Model Y cost less than that (MSRP).
Inflation is compounded. So the numbers you quoted from 65 would fall right in line with inflation numbers. Some things will be higher, some will be less. Electronics fall well below inflation numbers.
+1
It is now possible to buy a 75 inch hi-def TV for $1,000–or less.
The 21 inch color TVs of the 1950s sold for ~$500, which is roughly equivalent to the purchasing power of ~$5,800 today.
