Was it out of coolant? Did you overheat it?

Did it run out of coolant, overheat and then the engine seized? If so you have a melted hunk of metal under the hood. How about some more detail on what is happening. Does the engine crank but not start? Does the starter spin but not crank the engine? Is there no sound from the starter? Is the check engine light on? What was it doing before it died?

This OP is apparently a friend of poster ( devallision2 ) a 15 year old who does not think he needs English class. We may need to notify the truant officers we have to school skippers.

If it cranks ok but doesn’t catch and run, the most likely causes are

- no spark
- no gas
- compression problem

Your choice which to check first. I’ve had the first two be causes of no-starts at one time or the other, but I sometimes have to verify the compression sometimes too b/c of ambiguous results on testing the first two. I usually start by checking for spark at a spark plug, attaching a plug wire to a spare spark plug I keep on hand. I think if I were in your situation I’d start by checking compression.

I, in fact do not skip school, I get my work done and use my free time to look up and ask questions about vehicles. I have never skipped class a day in my life, my mom would beat me dead.

how much coolant did you add? Are you able to pressure test the cooling system? That may be a moot point til you get it started, but it sounds very likely that you overheated this 37+ year old engine (unless it’s been replaced along the way,) and have damaged it internally.

You won’t tell us if it was 3 ounces or 3 gallons? This is going to be impossible.
Sounds like it was pretty much bone dry, both coolant and oil. If you were running it like this, you are now the proud owner of a very heavy boat anchor under your hood.

till it was full and it was last driven in 2009, the only other problem i could think of is that i put too thick oil in it cause it called for 10w 30 and i put sae 30 since it was almost winter
Straight 30 weight oil is the wrong oil for winter; 10W-30 flows better in cold temperatures. This may have made matters worse.
