Why would tiny droplets injected be.tter than gasoline vapor from a carburetor?

One other major advantage of fuel injection - it has pretty much eliminated vapor lock. Keeping gas at pressure prevents it from boiling.

Lots of excellent points. Just to add a bit…direct fuel injection allows the mixture in the cylinder to be nonuniform, so the mixture near the walls - farthest from the spark plug - is leaner. That makes its autoignition harder. This is good because the end gases (farthest from the spark) are normally the region where knock starts. Suppressing autoignition there allows higher compression ratio, so higher power and efficiency.

Also a point about vaporization in the cylinder…the injection pressure is very high, as you know, so the atomization spray is extremely fine, allowing the tiny droplets to vaporize in miliseconds.
