Why these stupid hand-held tire pressure gauges?

It can be rather inconvenient to check tire pressures, especially as I age. I have a small portable compressor from an auto parts store for about $40 which shuts off at a predetermined pressure set by a dial. Its about the size of a toaster, and 120/12v. Much easier to use, at home, than to find a gas station with a working pump and no one parked in the way. On the road I am much less interested in the exact pressure as in finding air and finding why I need air. I’m not interested in a couple pounds difference warm/cold.

All the “require this” and “require that” is what makes a $10k car cost $30k. Multiple airbags when engineers all say the seatbelt is the most effective safety device. 5mph bumpers that cost thousands to fix in a minor bump. Anyone can add to the list.

A $0.99 hand-held guage I bought at Walmart measured ~5psi less than actual value and I was using it for approx. 2 years without knowing it was inaccurate. I think I lost lot of gas :frowning:
